Reflection on Coaching Circles

Elodie van Sytzama is an experienced coach for leaders, a mediator and an organizational consultant. Together, we are a part of a coaching circle that meets regularly in Amsterdam. Last Friday, since we couldn’t meet in person, we held a session online, this is what Elodie wrote after that:

“As a group, we have had five coaching circle sessions.

Before each session, I always find myself in limbo. On the one hand, I want to be there, I begin to love being with this group and I like the type of connection we have during sessions. On the other hand, I am not sure if I am able to dedicate another 90 minutes to it. There are always more urgent work and life issues waiting.  Also, I normally don’t feel that I have an urgent question to address (which is not true of course).

However, once the session starts, the quiet and authentic guidance of Amir helps me to get clarity within minutes, and there is always a question that needs to be addressed coming up. The process is quick, intoxicating and graceful, which always brings excitement and hope for something better than what you might expect. I find the brainstorming phase very useful because it helps to draft a plan, which is already the beginning of a way forward.

It is recommended for anyone that likes to learn and practice deep dialogue. If you believe that we have a healing source within ourselves and that we can find answers with the support of others (not as solvers), it is definitely something for you.”
